What is the JetCool SmartPlate System for Dell PowerEdge R770?
The SmartPlate System puts a complete liquid loop inside one server. Cold plates take heat from the processors, a pump moves the coolant, and a radiator rejects the heat into the room. Nothing connects to facility water, so a hall can adopt liquid cooling at the chip without new pipework. JetCool rates the system to 1,500 W of thermal design power in a 2U chassis and reports an average 13 percent reduction in server power. The datasheet gives a cold plate of 118 by 78 by 9.3 mm, a system weight of 3,100 g, a supply of 12 W at 12 V, PG25 and other water-based coolants, and a survival range of 0 to 45 degrees Celsius. Because the heat still leaves through the air, the room has to absorb it: this moves the heat path, it does not remove it. The published material does not state the coolant volume, the pump's service life, the noise at full load, or the room inlet temperature at which the 1,500 W rating holds. Ask for the rating at the hall's actual supply-air temperature, the failure behaviour if the pump stops, whether Dell or JetCool answers a thermal support case, and what happens to the loop at the end of the server's life.
