What is the Airedale by Modine TurboChill DCS?
TurboChill DCS is Modine's air-cooled chiller range for colocation and hyperscale sites, sold under the Airedale brand. It uses oil-free centrifugal compressors on magnetic bearings, which hold efficiency at part load better than a fixed-speed screw machine, and that matters because a data hall spends most of its life below design load. The range covers 800 kW to 2 megawatts. The largest published model reaches 1,850 kW of nominal gross cooling and 2,000 kW maximum, at a nominal energy efficiency ratio of 4.0 and a nominal water flow of 44.2 liters per second. Refrigerant is R1234ze, with a global warming potential of 1.37, which is a different regulatory position from the R134a machines it replaces. Modine states the range is designed and tested for ambient temperatures up to 55 degrees Celsius, so it can be specified in hot climates without derating guesswork. The largest unit is long: 16,207 mm, at 2,844 mm deep and 2,200 mm high. A stainless steel variant is offered for direct liquid cooling loops where water treatment and corrosion matter, and in January 2026 Modine announced a TurboChill above 3 megawatts. The brochure does not state sound power, minimum stable load, or the part-load efficiency curve. Ask for the seasonal figure at the site's own weather file rather than the nominal ratio, and for the free-cooling hours behind the claimed savings.
