What is the Motivair ChilledDoor?
ChilledDoor is an active rear-door heat exchanger that replaces or attaches at the back of a standard information-technology rack. Server exhaust passes through a water-cooled coil, and up to five electrically commutated fans help overcome coil resistance and control airflow. Motivair rates the product for as much as 75 kW and says it can provide room-neutral cooling, meaning the air leaves near room conditions when the door removes the rack's full heat output. That result depends on entering-water temperature and flow, entering-air conditions, server airflow, coil cleanliness, fan operation, and the actual rack load. It should not be read as 75 kW under any facility-water condition. The door leaves servers in familiar air-cooled chassis and can also handle the residual air load from direct-liquid-cooled racks. In return, the site must bring hoses to every rack, support the loaded door, power and maintain its fans, and protect against condensation and leaks. Confirm rack width, hinge and 95-degree swing clearance, hose routing, quick connects, water chemistry, pressure drop, fan power, sound, and controls. Ask what heat-removal capacity remains with one fan unavailable and whether servers can maintain airflow if door power is lost. Procurement should require a selection at the site's water temperatures and altitude, plus condensation-control logic, leak response, monitoring protocol, approvals, coil-cleaning access, and service parts. “Universal compatibility” still needs a physical and airflow check for the exact rack and cabling layout.
