What is the Boyd ROL4000?
The ROL4000 is a liquid-to-liquid coolant distribution unit for a row of high-density racks. Boyd describes it as inspired by the fifth generation of Google's Project Deschutes design, which matters commercially: an operator standardising on that open specification can treat suppliers as interchangeable rather than bespoke. Boyd rates the unit at 2 megawatts with a 3 degree Celsius approach to facility water, which is a narrow approach and therefore implies a large heat exchanger for the duty. Flow reaches 1,890 liters per minute, quoted as 500 gallons per minute, and the unit supplies up to 80 psi of available pressure to drive manifolds, control valves and cold plates. Availability features are stated rather than optional: seal-less N+1 pumps, a fully redundant power feed for each pump circuit, and 0.2 micron side-stream filtration. The cabinet is 1,651 by 1,199 by 2,364 mm. Boyd does not publish the electrical load, the pressure drop on the primary side, the secondary fluid the rating assumes, or the minimum stable load, and the last of those matters for a hall that fills gradually. Ask for a selection at the site's facility-water temperature, the pump curve behind the 80 psi figure, and the capacity that remains with one pump out of service.
