What is the nVent RackChiller CDU800?
The RackChiller CDU800 sits between facility water and the server loop, and nVent's distinguishing claim is the pump. A magnetically coupled pump has no rotating shaft seal, which removes the component that most often weeps on a conventional pump. nVent states more than 800 kW of capacity at a 6 kelvin approach with 850 liters per minute on the primary side. The cabinet occupies 800 by 1,200 mm in plan and stands 2,200 mm tall, which keeps it within a standard row. Filtration is 250 micron on the primary side and 44 micron on the secondary. Secondary supply runs up to 45 degrees Celsius, matching the warmest ASHRAE water class, so a site can often reject heat without mechanical cooling. Electrical supply is 380 to 480 volts, three phase, and nVent quotes 68 decibels and 11.7 kW of power draw at normal operation in its comparison material. The unit is designed to be serviced while running. nVent does not publish the pressure drop across either side, the secondary fluid the rating assumes, or the capacity with one pump unavailable. Ask for a selection at the site's own facility-water temperature, the pump curve, and confirmation of which components can be swapped while the unit is running rather than merely reached.
